The Experimental Study of the Effect of Antibiotics and Steroid Hormone in Corrosive Esophagitis

Abstract
There are many problems of the corrosive esophagitis and esophageal stricture due to ingestion of sodium hydrochloride and acetic. acid for accident or purpose of suicide.
The various treatment for corrosive esophagitis have been reported. The rabbits were ingested with 3% .of acetic acid and 2% of sodium hydrochoride by syringe through the Nelaton tube for. induced ¢¥corrosive esophagitis.
Two hours after inducing esophagitis, the treatment was started under the following procedures for 7 days.
Group 1; Control, no treatment.
Group 2; Antibiotic (Hostacilline, 100, 000 units/kg, I.M.), only.
Group 3; Steroid (Prednisolone, 2 mg/kg, I.M.), only.
Group 4; Combined, antibiotic and steroid.
Seven days after treatment, the rabbits were killed, the injured esophagus were macroscopically and histopathologically observed and following results were obtained.
1. NaOH was damaged more severe than acetic acid.
2. Macroscopically, the injured esophagus. was revealed ulcer formation, swelling and coated with exudate.
3. Microscopically, the infiltration of inflammatory cells, edema and loss of mucosal layer and submucosal layer were observed.
4. In group treated with steroid and antibiotic, the inflammatory cells, edema and loss of mucosal layer were markedly diminished and the epithelization was rapidly increased.
